Great American Group Retail Appraisals

Retail and Consumer Inventory Appraisals

Great American Group's Retail and Consumer Division maintains extensive experience appraising a wide variety of inventories, including apparel, footwear, furniture, jewelry, music, electronics, and toys, as well as those at department, drug, and supermarket stores and health and beauty chains. Utilizing our retail liquidation experts, we develop the most accurate values based on recent liquidations of similar types of assets.

Great American utilizes certain factors in determining recovery values, including the following:

  • Time of year/seasonality
  • Basic vs. fashion nature of the inventory
  • Comparable stores sales
  • Level of “normal course” discounting and promotions
  • Weeks of supply
  • Inventory location
  • Inventory level in distribution centers
  • Expense structure of stores (mall, outlet, freestanding)
  • Advertising limitations
  • Perishability and/or expiration dates (food, cosmetics, OTC drugs)
  • Level of aged goods

The typical liquidation strategy for retail and consumer inventories is a Going-Out-of-Business (“GOB”) Sale, with customers including the general public.
